Several writers of late in the American have given expression to quite a few erroneous conceptions regarding the teachings of Christian Science. The writer, who considers it a great privilege to be a Christian Scientist, being born under Judaism, can only say to those who condemn Christian Science, with opinions far from being Christian, in the Master's words, "Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do." If the world at that period had in the least comprehended the mission of Jesus, they would never have crucified him; and if all our critics knew that the things they are criticizing regarding Christian Science are only their opinion as to what they think Christian Science is, they also would stop condemning and become Christians in the light of the Bible; "Judge not, that ye be not judged."

We are living in an age where proof is needed more than profession, since "universal salvation rests on progression and probation" (Science and Health, p. 291). Material laws, in which mankind has enslaved itself to every sense of fear, worry, limitation, sickness, no matter under whatever name sin may make its appearance, have indeed found their master in the teachings of Jesus the Christ or Messiah.

"Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," and "The kingdom of heaven is at hand," were his declarations to a people sunk in mortality and ritualism. He proved in this one sermon that all laws of carnal creation, such as the Adam theory, laws for health and happiness, service and worship, had their beginning in matter, and not in the law of Spirit, which he came to demonstrate. He proved the truth of his teaching by raising the dead, healing the sick, giving sight to the blind, by the spiritual laws of the universe. We have records that his teaching was made practical in the early Christian era. He spoke to the whole world when he said: "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father," calling upon all mankind to repent and seek happiness through the understanding of the spiritual law of love, which he demonstrated and left as our legacy to do likewise.
