[Written for the Sentinel.]

"LAZARUS, COME FORTH"

So spake the Master, standing by the grave
Of one bound hand and foot by error's chain.
He spake with power, he knew 'twas not in vain:
Truth voiced in faith mankind from death could save.

At the command the dead straightway arose,
And came to where the Master waiting stood
To loose his bonds. And at the sight the rude
And questioning crowd fell back. Truth quelled his foes.

Now, lowly listening, we, too, can hear
The Christ repeat the same command today,—
"Come forth!" from thoughts of sin and death. Oh, may
We ever gladly to the healing Christ draw near!
