THE READING-ROOM

More and more Christian Scientists are coming to see how wise was the provision of our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, in establishing the reading-room as an adjunct to the work of all Christian Science churches. Its very atmosphere is permeated with purity, and there one has the great privilege of reading or purchasing the authorized literature of Christian Science, and through the application of its teachings is enabled to obtain and retain this sense of purity which is so closely allied to the healing.

For more than three months in succession, I have been a daily visitor at the Christian Science reading-room in a large city, and have rejoiced at seeing the great benefit it affords to all who desire it, from the laborer to the banker, from the busy toiler in the world's great mart to the person of leisure. Christian Science knows no distinction, but blesses all, and the presence in the reading-room day after day of familiar faces, furnishes the proof of their appreciation of its beneficent effect.

The wisdom and kindness of the one in charge is another blessing. She gives to all comers a cheery greeting, a kindly word of encouragement, and is a veritable ray of sunshine to the weary and heavy-laden seekers for rest and peace. I have been healed of many ills in this "my home," as I love to call it, for to the traveler it offers the protection of a home, a veritable place of refuge where Love heals and comforts the weary. Like The Mother Church, it has a larger part in benefiting the world than many at present understand; but Isaiah's words, which tell of "sure dwellings" and "quiet resting places," point to its purpose.
