Premising that all of Christian Science is found in the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, the write disclaims all authority or desire for discussion of the subject, either academic or polemic; but he is grateful for the opportunities which are given by an impartial press to correct such misconceptions and misrepresentations of Christian Science as are sometimes placed before the public, and he can assure a recent inquirer that there are really a number of scientific men who believe Jesus' statement regarding prayer which is recorded in St. Matthew xxi, and whose concept of prayer has been formed from the chapter under that heading found in Science and Health.

Christian Scientists do not believe that prayer controls anything, but they do believe that God, infinite Spirit, controls everything in the universe of His creation. In times of contagious epidemic, as at all other times, they are law-abiding citizens, obeying constitutional authority, and conforming to statute laws and municipal regulations just like their neighbors, although they do regard many of the so-called "laws of health" as merely laws of belief. Christian Science inculcates all that stands for purity. The purest and best in the material approach most nearly to the spiritual, and so Christian Science demands cleanliness of body and mind, mental as well as material sanitation; the clean thoughts that precede and eventuate in clean deeds and clean bodies.
