I am writing this testimony as a token of my gratitude...

I am writing this testimony as a token of my gratitude to God for Christian Science. On Sept. 2, 1907, the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, was lent to me. I read it at night and in the early mornings, often sleeping only a few hours. Some of it I found difficult to understand, but very much was so clear and appealing that I could not help loving this truth and Mrs. Eddy for giving it to the world.

I had been told that I could be healed in Christian Science of a spinal trouble from which I had always suffered, and also of the need to wear glasses, but this I did not believe. When I had been reading this wonderful book for a little less than six weeks I was suddenly attacked by a very bad backache, worse, as it seemed, than I had ever before experienced. This lasted for five days and nights, which seemed very dreadful, as I had always before obtained relief by lying down. I did not tell any one, as there was nothing to be done, different doctors having told me that I must bear it and not expect to be as strong as other people; so I continued to read Science and Health, as by this time I was becoming convinced that it contained the truth which Jesus said would make us free, and on the sixth morning I awoke healed. I have never had a backache since!

In a few weeks I had to begin altering my dresses, as I became straighter, and now I am more than an inch taller. In course of time I left off the glasses which I had worn constantly for fourteen years; indeed, if ever I was a half-hour without them, my eyes would be inflamed, but now I have not used them at all since March, 1910. This healing seemed to be slow, and I have needed help, which has been freely and lovingly given. Although my eyes are now quite strong, there are still days when I need to realize the truth to see clearly.
