My first investigation of Christian Science was more in...
My first investigation of Christian Science was more in the form of a jest than otherwise, a friend saying she would visit a practitioner if I would; but after five minutes' conversation with the practitioner I saw that my opinion of Christian Science was entirely wrong, that there was nothing in it savoring of superstition or that is uncanny. I took one week's treatment for chronic bowel trouble, and was speedily healed. This was about seven years ago, and I have never had a recurrence of the trouble. I immediately saw that a well body meant a pure mental attitude, and I had quite a struggle to maintain it. Being a minister's daughter and having always taken an active part in all church work, I immediately saw that all this really meant nothing to me except in a social way. I had always been filled with envy, fear, and dark forebodings of all sorts, and now to have it revealed to me that happiness meant to be right spiritually instead of being at the head of some social function, was quite a change.
It took me almost a year to understand just how to make this change of thought, and I am still striving to love my neighbor as myself and to know that my neighbor means all mankind. I have also been healed of a nervous irritation of the eyes. On the occasion of a fall down a stairway which resulted in serious injury to the ligaments of my foot, the trouble was overcome in one absent treatment. In another case, through a fall on a highly polished floor I injured my hip; but this, too, was overcome in a week's treatment. Harmony has been revealed where all seemed inharmonious, I have not only been helped physically and spiritually, but I have been shown how to realize the abundant supply of everything that God has for all of His children. If I can help any one by answering any questions, I will gladly do it.
