Vancouver (B. C.) Province
In a recent issue appeared a sermon by a clergyman on the occasion of the opening of the new Chalmers church, in which he alludes disparagingly to Christian Science. We are somewhat surprised to find that a man of such standing should use such inelegant language in regard to a religion which is very dear to the hearts of many of his neighbors, and it seems to express but little of the spirit of the Master. Christian Scientists are sincere in their efforts to follow Christ as he commanded, but they believe that it is their duty to heal the sick as well as to preach the gospel. Many are Christian Scientists today who failed to find a demonstrable truth in the church which they formerly attended.
The iron fetters which matter welds,
Are the weight of our low desire,
But the golden links of the chain of Mind
Are forged in God's cleansing fire.
And His anvil clangs in chords of love,
While freedom hovers with peace above.
Olive Macleod.
