Several years ago, after all material means had failed to relieve a seriously injured ankle, I turned to Christian Science with the same thought that I had given the other modes of cure—and no more, for to me it was nothing but a name; but having no prejudices and desiring to be healed, it was only reasonable that I should heed the advice of the practitioner just as carefully as I had followed the instructions of the various methods previously tried. The relief was immediate; the complete cure slow but permanent.
My mortal heritage had seemed to be weak lungs and throat, but by a persistent endeavor to realize the truth taught in Christian Science, namely, "When the illusion of sickness or sin tempts you, cling steadfastly to God and His idea, etc." (Science and Health, p. 495), these conditions gradually lessened in severity and frequency, and finally ceased; until from years of suffering and delicate health I have grown into robustness. I was greatly interested in Christian Science from my first knowledge of it, and was more than pleased when my practitioner told me I could learn it if I wished—that it was the open fount "which flows for all." Just eight months from the time of my first treatment I went through class, and joined The Mother Church. I also joined Second Church of Christ, Scientist, Chicago, immediately thereafter.
Because of a right knowledge of omnipotence, I am truly grateful; because of the certainty of reaping as we sow, I am never discouraged; because nothing has power but the good, I am never fearful.
