The phenomenal growth of intellectual religion as propagated...
West Texas News
The phenomenal growth of intellectual religion as propagated by the Christian Scientists is the logical result of the application of the God-given attributes of love and intelligence whereby spiritual elevation is attained and love, the essence of religion, is manifest.
Ten years ago Christian Science was denounced in the pulpit, in the home, and in the halls of learning. Today it is recognized by all thoughtful, intelligent people as a religion of the heart and mind. It has withstood the criticism and denunciation of orthodoxy and has passed into a new stage of existence by the simple but dignified process of the great Master's mandates of extending love to all and by quiet but persistent appeals to the higher spirituality of mankind. It is true that much opposition is yet dominant in country pulpits, but that increases rather than diminishes its power and influence, by contrast. People are reading and are gradually awakening to the manifest truths upon which the new religion is founded, the modern intellectual interpretation of the Holy Bible and the Christ-life.
The West Texas News is not an apologist of Christian Scientists—they need none—but this article is written with a desire to minimize, if possible, the intolerant and uncalled-for criticisms in local pulpits and in local organizations whereby disciples of the new church are practically and individually boycotted in their vocations in life. Several instances have come to our knowledge of such unchristian-like and intolerant procedure, and it is our privilege, in the interest of Christianity and humanity, to appeal for justice to all—discrimination against none.
