Words are incapable of expressing our deepest thoughts;...

Words are incapable of expressing our deepest thoughts; and I pause, thinking what I can say to declare my gratitude to God, the giver of all good; but in the earnest hope that what I write will be for the help of some brother in need, I send this testimony. It is now nearly four years since I began to study "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and found that indeed it was the key, for it unlocked and revealed the treasures of the Bible as no other commentary or helps to its study had ever done for me. I read this wonderful book for nearly three months alone, and I remember coming to a passage in the chapter on Atonement and Eucharist (p. 37) which is as follows: "Christians claim to be his followers, but do they follow him in the way that he commanded? Hear these imperative commands: 'Be ye therefore perfect, ... Heal the sick'!" I then saw how these could not be for just one particular period, or for a limited number of people, but that we, if we were to be real disciples, must do likewise.

After this time I went to one of the services, and remember being much impressed by the simplicity and earnestness of all the people present. It seemed that here were men and women to whom prayer evidently meant direct communion with the infinite. After some little time, one said to me, "You too will leave your glasses off some day." I had worn glasses for sixteen years, and had been told that I could never leave them off; indeed this dictum was so fixed in my thought that they seemed to have become part of me, and I did very little work or reading by artificial light, for my eyes would constantly ache or pain me. I then decided to prove this Science for myself, and went to a practitioner, who gently and lovingly led me to see how I, as God's child, had all I needed every moment, and that He did not require any aid from matter, for He had created man perfect, in His image and likeness. After three weeks' treatment I left my glasses off, and have never required them since. I am now able, and have been since my healing, to work and read for hours together without any difficulty.

I give the above testimony as one of the many proofs of the healing power shown forth in Christian Science, but I should feel I had poorly expressed my gratitude did I not add the joy and wonderful spiritual understanding which is given to one through the faithful study of the Bible with the aid of Science and Health—words fail to express fully this part, which comes to each and all of us in the study of Christian Science. I can never cease to be grateful to Him who never ceases to bless and who has sent anew the truth to this age through His messenger, Mrs. Eddy, whose spirituality has enabled all mankind to understand and make practical in every-day life the teachings of the Master, and to prove his wonderful words, "The works that I do shall [ye] do also;" for "Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world."
