I come with a heart overflowing with love and gratitude to God, and to our dear Leader, for this truth which has set me free and placed my feet on the rock, Christ Jesus. Christian Science has given me an understanding of the one infinite Mind that governs man. I was for ten years a great sufferer, afflicted with many diseases. I was treated by local doctors, and took their medicine, but finally they could do no more for me and I went to an infirmary, one of the best in the South, where I had several surgical operations performed. I had the best of material treatment, and was cared for by good nurses, but I felt something was lacking. I would often ask the physicians who attended me to pray for me, but somehow I felt that their prayers would not help me. Finally I came home, but in a few months I had to return in a more deplorable condition than at first.

During these months I had begun to seek God as my healer, and to search the Scriptures daily, but I failed to get my healing. I read that Christ Jesus healed all manner of disease, and I longed to be healed in this way, but no one here believed in the Christ-healing. One day, when I was suffering intensely, a dear friend sat by my bedside, and I felt impressed to remark in her presence that I intend to quit all this medicine and trust in God for my healing. She said that the day of miracles had passed, and that I must take medicine. I told her that I had been reading the Gospels and I had learned what Christ did, and that he is "the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever." I had never heard of Christian Science at this time, so I again went away for surgical treatment. It was while on the cars, as I was returning home, that Christian Science was presented to me. A lady handed me a copy of the Sentinel, and even as I looked it over I felt that it meant healing for me. I asked the lady if she was a Scientist, and her reply that she was made me very happy, for I knew that at last I had found what I had been seeking. She also gave me a Journal, and on reaching home I told my husband that I had found what would heal me. I sat up till a late hour that night reading the testimonies, and I never shall forget how I felt. They seemed to me the sweetest messages I had ever heard, and that the brightest sunshine was flowing into my life.

I had suffered greatly from sleeplessness, but next morning I arose refreshed, and ate what I pleased, which was something I had not done in a long time. I purchased a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and learning where I could find a practitioner, I went to her home at once. As I related my story I was instantly healed of female trouble, a disease which had exhausted the skill of a number of physicians and which they had told me could never be cured. I can truthfully say that the pain has never returned from that day till this, now over two years. I was also healed of a serious chronic stomach trouble. I read Science and Health almost day and night for months, and by the help of this kind practitioner and my constant study, the ailments began to vanish, and health came. With it came an understanding of God, divine Principle. While I had been a church-member for years and had a great desire to do good, I never before could find out how to do it.
