I am glad to express my gratitude for what Christian Science...
I am glad to express my gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me. In February, 1908, I was smitten with a sudden and acute attack of rheumatism. I did not work from that time until November of the same year. I tried the best doctors, but got no help. I went to Michigan and took sulphur baths, but the following May I had a return, worse than the first attack. The doctor gave me up, and said he could do no more for me. I then had other treatment, but it gave me no help. I could not move hand or foot, could not even speak aloud. When, through a friend, I finally called a Christian Science practitioner, I had not eaten any food for eight or ten days. In three days I sat up in bed, and by the end of the first week I was sitting in a chair and eating whatever I wished; all pain and swelling had gone. I soon returned to my work, feeling better than I had for years, for which I am most grateful.
In February, 1909, as I was stepping off a train, I slipped on the ice and fell between the train and the station platform. I was badly crushed and bruised by the trucks of the cars, but I was taken out and carried to the hotel, where I asked for a Christian Science practitioner. In one week I returned to my home, was there in bed for another week, and was back at work in ten weeks. My weight was one hundred and ninety-five pounds, and I hardly think that even a smaller man could have escaped serious injury.
I have not taken any medicine since my first help in Christian Science. I read Science and Health daily, and am most grateful to God for all the help that has come to me.
