When Christian Science was presented to me by some...
When Christian Science was presented to me by some dear friends, over six years ago, it seemed more beautiful than anything I had ever heard. It was not so much the physical healing that impressed me, but the fact that this was a practical religion, of use in our every-day affairs, and I soon obtained a copy of the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and began to read it eagerly, determined to find out if it was true. I had for years been subject to very severe headaches, and any little excitement or the shortest railway journey would always cause me great suffering, which would last several days; and nothing had ever relieved it. After I had been studying Christian Science for about six months, I had occasion to go on a journey of several hours' duration. At the end of the journey I found that I was quite free from pain, and I then realized that during the whole of the six months I had never had a headache. I had been healed by Truth, as revealed to us in Science and Health, and I have never had any return of this trouble. This proved to me that Christian Science is indeed the truth, and I am deeply grateful that it was brought to me.
A few months later my niece, then a child of four years, was sent to my home, as she had been ill, and it was thought she might be benefited by the change. She seemed to be in a bad state of health, had a large swelling behind her ear, and was never free from pain. My father sent for a doctor, who after examining her said that an operation must be performed at once, and as it was a serious case she must be sent to a hospital, He also said he would call on the following day to make arrangements for her removal. I did not know much about Christian Science treatment, but I knew that it was certainly not God's will that the little one should suffer, and I at once began to try to help her with the little knowledge I then had. After putting her to bed I sat beside her a few minutes, and I realized so clearly that God did love her and would protect her, that I left her feeling sure that she would be all right. I was away from home all the next day, but on my return my mother told me that the doctor had been there and was very much surprised to find that the abscess had entirely disappeared and he said the child was perfectly well. This seemed very wonderful to me, and words can never express my joy and gratitude for this proof of God's love for His children. My love and thankfulness go out to Mrs. Eddy for her work in giving Christian Science to us, and to all those who have helped me to gain some understanding of this truth.
