I wish to call attention to a most remarkable demonstration...
I wish to call attention to a most remarkable demonstration of the healing power of Christian Science, hoping that it may help some one. Three years ago I was stricken with very severe lung trouble in Goldfield, Nevada, and had medical treatment for it. I was taken on a stretcher to San Francisco, where I was in one of the finest hospitals in that city, and under the care of one of the kindest and most skilful of physicians. I was in the hospital six months, during a part of which time my life was supposed to be hanging in the balance. Just as I began to improve, a serious trouble arose that called for an operation, and the remaining three months of my stay were spent in trying to regain the scanty supply of strength which I had before the operation. At the end of the six months I was sent home in a very weak and impoverished condition,—impoverished not only in health but in pocket-book as well, as the illness had involved expenses amounting to several thousand dollars. I was told that I should very likely have another attack of lung trouble, which would mean death.
A few months after this my wife became interested in Christian Science, and induced me to look into it. I studied "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and read many articles in the Sentinel and Journal. I saw that there was a great deal in it, and I soon had an opportunity to put it to the test. In San Francisco I again developed all the symptoms of the disease, symptoms with which I was only too well acquainted, and I was pretty well scared. I was very ill and helpless, and this time I decided to leave my case to Christian Science. My wife took me to San Jose, where we became acquainted with a practitioner, who began to treat me on Monday, and by Thursday I felt much better. In my first illness I was for months on a liquid diet, and the practitioner surprised me very much by asking me if I would like some solid food. I partook of some and enjoyed it very much. I was up again on Sunday, just one week from the day the symptoms first appeared.
In this cure my moral uplift was most remarkable. Since this healing I have not lost any time through ill health, and have spent months at an elevation of seven thousand feet, although the doctors had told me that it would be most dangerous for me to go into high altitudes. I am now able to do as much and more than I could before my first attack. I have been largely relieved of a bad habit of worrying, and can make many demonstrations for myself. I am deeply grateful to Mrs. Eddy for having made plain to us how God's power is available to us at all times.
