I did not take up the study of Christian Science for the physical healing—it attracted me as a religion, because of its radical difference from the belief in which I had been reared; although I had been a church-member for nearly twenty years. One day, without any warning, intense pain in my back and lower limbs manifested itself. I tried to overcome the pain through the slight understanding I had gained from the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, but I did not make much progress. I then called upon a Christian Science practitioner for treatment, and while to one who was suffering the healing might seem slow, yet in about a week I was well. The sickness was diagnosed as an acute form of rheumatism. The understanding and spiritual uplifting which I received during the treatment was indeed a glimpse of Life, Truth, and Love.

Again, when a great grief came to us through the accidental death of our only child, the loving encouragement given in Christian Science helped me to overcome this great sorrow. It seemed that I should have died, had it not been for Christian Science. I am indeed grateful to Mrs. Eddy for having given us Science and Health, for it has taught me to know God aright.
