Vitality

Today, as of yore, when a man knows the truth he knows God, and in that he becomes the freeman of the Lord. If this freedom had only conferred immunity from neurotic disease, it would have accomplished something that has defied all the generations of doctors from Galen to our own time, but the fact is that the healing of organic disease by Christian Science is even more common than the healing of hysteria. No one, I imagine, would classify cancer, epilepsy, or consumption as neurotic, yet all these are being destroyed by Christian Science every day. In the pamphlet entitled "Christian Science and Legislation" instances of the cure of these and many other types of disease are given, and, if anything was to be gained by it, such instances might have been increased indefinitely. The evidence in support of these cures is irrefutable, and has satisfied Judge Clifford P. Smith, a man trained by years of experience to sift and weigh evidence of every kind.

The fact is that Christian Scientists are meeting today the cry which Jesus met. When the blind man was healed, the Pharisees, instead of rejoicing, began at once to suggest that he never had been blind. The Jews, John tells us, did not believe. They went to his parents and demanded, "Is this your son, who ye say was born blind?" And when his parents has replied that he certainly was born blind, and when the man himself had flouted them with the irreducible minimum of his reply, "One thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see," they answered with their own irreducible minimum, "And they cast him out."
