Fairhaven (Mass.) Star

Our friends, the doctors, or at least some of them, are most desirous of forming a trust. They insist that none but themselves are competent to treat diseases, and are constantly urging laws to prevent the laity from interfering with their apparently profitable business. There are a good many honest, intelligent people who are even more successful than the doctors in healing the sick, and every one is entitled to the privilege of selecting for himself a treatment that has his confidence, whether it be "medical" or "mental," so long as it does not conflict with the rights or safety of others. It is just as essential to have medical as religious freedom. We are not told by law that we must swallow this or that doctrine for the salvation of our souls; neither should we be compelled either to die or swallow nauseous medicines for the salvation or salivation of our systems.
