Christian Science found me a physical and mental wreck. I had seemingly exhausted the resources of materia medica and surgery, for there was no relief for me in either. My body was racked with pain day and night. This, with extreme nervousness, made life almost unbearable for me, as well as for my family. At this time Christian Science was advised, and although I had no idea what it was, I hoped it would at least relieve me. While waiting to hear from a practitioner over five hundred miles away, I borrowed a copy of that inspired book, Science and Health, till one could reach me from Boston. Then came a letter from the practitioner, full of peace and comfort, also saying she would take my case. At once the clouds began to roll back, and I caught glimpses of light; soon the pain was gone, and I fully realized what the psalmist meant, for I could "both lay me down in peace, and sleep." I knew without a doubt that I had found the truth which makes free.

After studying the Bible and Science and Health almost constantly for three months, making free use of a dictionary to get the exact meaning of words, I found my sight restored, even to the eye that was called partially blind. It had been proven to me that sight is spiritual, not material. I cannot enumerate the many blessings which have come to us as a family, through the study of Christian Science, but one of the greatest, as it seems to me, is a sufficient understanding of Truth to help others as I was helped. Each day and hour my heart is filled with love and gratitude to God that we have been given our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who has so tenderly, patiently, and wisely shown us the way whereby we may know God, good. The Bible and the Christian Science text-book have been my only teacher.
