When I think upon the many blessings which have...
When I think upon the many blessings which have come to me and mine since this demonstrable Science has been presented to us, and how small a part I have made known, I deem it a duty and esteem it a privilege to grasp this opportunity of so doing. It is over four years since I became interested in this study, through the almost instantaneous healing of a sister whose case had practically been given up by the medical profession after more than a year's treatment with them. It was, as our dear Leader so truly puts it, another instance where "man's extremity is God's opportunity."
I was convinced by this proof that I, too, could be healed of a serious kidney trouble, for which I had been under medical treatment more than three years, when the only relief offered me was by submitting to an operation. This certainly was not a bright outlook, and I turned to God for my healing and received it in, I think, ten treatments from a Christian Science practitioner. After this I enjoyed such freedom of mind as well as body as I had never known before. I had been obliged to wear a bandage during the three years of my illness, and the list of "don'ts" under which I was held in bondage I shall not attempt to enumerate. I rid myself of the bandage in a short time, for I was learning that God is the one and only support and that I required no other. From then on I set to work to know something of that which promised infinite blessings, and through daily watching and praying I have been able to assist myself in the overcoming of many difficulties, both physical and otherwise. Words are indeed inadequate for an expression of my gratitude.
Not quite a year ago, my father, now past his eightieth year, became very receptive to this healing truth, and how true it is that God is no respecter of persons if we but turn to Him, and Him alone, for help. When the season for colds was close at hand, it never slipped his memory, nor ever passed him by, and this particular time his siege of illness seemed more severe than ever before. He was confined to his bed for several weeks in a very wretched condition with a distressing cough. Father was not at all interested in Christian Science, so he looked to mortal man for his relief—but he did not receive it. Then, like a tried child, after his medicines became absolutely distasteful to him, he was willing that some one should speak with him of Life as revealed in Christian Science. He had more than once expressed the opinion that he would simply have to stay in bed, owing to his age, and here was the mischief-maker. I should like to add that father was a Jewish minister for many years, and of course and Bible was no new book to him, so far as the letter was concerned, but he knew nothing of its spiritual interpretation up to this time.
