Christian Science is the ascertained truth about God,...
Kansas City (Kan.) Globe
Christian Science is the ascertained truth about God, good, and about His creation (man). It accepts nothing as true that has not been demonstrated to a perfect result. It declares that God is omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent good, and that man is His image and likeness. It points out that the mission of Jesus was to make plain the relation of man to his creator. He taught the truth about it both by precept and example, and the inerrancy of this teaching was demonstrated by application to the lives of those who listened: the lame walked, the blind received their sight, the lepers were cleansed, the dead were raised, and the people listened with joy to the one that told of a God who is Love. Christian Scientists know this to be true, not as the result of any psychological research, not as the result of the lifetime study of some philosopher or school of philosophers, but by its humble, obedient application to the problems of their own lives, each for himself.
The attempt to fix a limit to the action of spiritual law, and as a substitute submit to and obey material law, is an impeachment of the infinite. It charges that He who "made all things that were made" failed to provide a method for the protection and perpetuation of His creation. Jesus did not teach so. The law he declared was the spiritual law. It was on the authority of the Father. It was not ambiguous. It was not uncertain in its results. "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself." Certainly if there had been a possible condition under which this would not apply, would not have been all-sufficient, he would not have assured his questioners: "This do, and thou shalt live." He sent his followers forth to preach this gospel of Love with as certain assurance that the spiritual law should apply and be sufficient in the case of all "them that believe," as in that of those who listened to him. He never made promises that were not to be fulfilled, and this was no exception to the rule. His immediate followers healed the sick and raised the dead. Paul, the apostle who never saw him, did the same. It continued among "them that believe" almost three hundred years....
For centuries the physical senses have refused to accept the spiritual law pointed out by Jesus as sufficient, but have submitted to the material law that mankind are subject to sin and disease, with no escape except through death, and this escape problematical. Mrs. Eddy discovered the truth about this. She discovered that the work of the Master was in accordance with exact Science, the Principle and rule of which she demonstrated in her own life. She proved its truth. She called it Christian Science and gave it to the world in the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and the multitude testify to the healing which follows its understanding. Their evidence cannot be set aside. They were sick and the world knew it. They are now well and the world is taking notice. They were subject to every discord that can beset mankind; they listened to the invitation: "Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest," and now are free enjoying the fulfilment of the promise to "them that believe."
