I first heard of Christian Science ten years ago, when a friend who had just come in touch with this new-old truth told me of its power over sickness and death. From early childhood I had thought how dreadful it was that this good man or that wealthy man could not be saved from death, and when Christian Science was spoken of to me I decided to find out about it. I asked my friend where I could learn of this power, and he said it was explained in a book called "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, so I sent for a copy of the book. A year later I had a serious accident, and I think I should have passed on but for the little understanding which I had gained from this book. I read Science and Health all day, but that night everything seemed very dark,—as if I were under a great weight, so that I could not move hand or foot; but at midnight the light of Truth began to shine out, and at break of day this text from the Bible came to me, "One day is with the Lord as a thousand years," so I dressed and went down stairs. A friend who came in said, "It is wonderful to see you up."

Fifteen months later I took care of myself in a case of obstetrics. On similar occasions, before I knew of Christian Science, the doctors had given me chloroform, which seemed to allay the agony of forty-eight hours of suffering, but this time I was alone with the "great Physician," and the experience was all over in three hours without pain or the expense of a nurse or doctor. The child was normal and unusually strong. Through study of the Bible and Science and Health I am enabled to keep my four children well, and to help others. On one occasion I was very ill and nearly unconscious when a friend came in and began to read Science and Health to me. A glow of warmth came over me, and I knew that I could not lose my sense of God, who is my Life, and ever present.

Now I can say with a heart full of love and gratitude to God, and to dear Mrs. Eddy, "O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?" I am very grateful for the periodicals issued by The Christian Science Publishing Society.
