Hornell (N. Y.) Tribune

Mrs. Eddy has not denied the fact of judgment or punishment for sin. The Christian Science text-book makes it very plain that men suffer for the deeds done in the body. The orthodox Christian church teaches that there will be a final and collective judgment for all mortals who have ever lived and died, that this vast assemblage will be collected at a given time, chronologically, and at a stated place, geographically, to face God on His throne and to be judged for their past conduct.

Mrs. Eddy simply declines to believe in any such scheme. She does not say that there will not come a time when the judgment of mortal man will be ended, but that time will arrive when the individual has been so regenerated and purified that, as Paul says. the old man has been put off and the new man, after Christ, appears. In other words, Christian Science teaches that the judgment of mortals is individual and not collective. It is a progressive purging process and not an event which is to occur for all at one time.
