A careful study of the writings of Mrs. Eddy will reveal the fact that they are what their author claims them to be, nothing more nor less than a commentary on the Bible, or a recapitulation of the teachings of Jesus, who frustrated the philosophy of all ages, spake as "never man spake," and "wrought wonders." He who declared fearlessly, "The words which I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life," inaugurated the only true philosophy. incomprehensible to material senses, to the carnally minded, because spiritually discerned, and only so. His system of philosophy is entirely satisfactory, inasmuch as in its final demonstration or consummation it conduces to immortality, to the absolute solution of one and all of life's problems. Superficial critics of Jesus' time, unable to discern the source of his authoritative utterances, questioned helplessly, "Whence hath this man knowledge?" but they were wiser than their fellows in this later age of skepticism and doubt, and, as their question evinces, did not attempt to trace his sayings to some humanly philosophical teaching of bygone ages.
