Prompted by recent experiences I submit the following...
Prompted by recent experiences I submit the following partial statement of what the life and work of our Leader means to me. For seventeen years I did not attend a church service or open a Bible. My excuse was that if the Bible is intelligible, men whose business it is to know should not still be in disagreement as to its interpretation. Three years ago Christian Science was brought to my notice by a friend, who—after my pointed remarks, which only served to bring out a greater degree of patience on his part—showed me that God being Spirit, His creation cannot be material, for like produces like. I agreed that this must be true, though I kept him half the night answering questions. He said that "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy was just as logical as the statement I had accepted, and when a few days later a copy was loaned me, I began at once to study it. After four months' thoughtful reading I laid aside tobacco with a sense of relief, as the desire for it had left me some weeks previously; severe headaches no longer followed the eating of certain foods; a violent temper was much improved upon, and profanity had ceased. I had not attempted to give up or overcome these habits, which were of long standing, but had gained an understanding of God and man which does not include discordant conditions, and they had disappeared. The Bible has become my daily study, because in the light of Christian Science it reveals the divine Principle and rule whereby we may prove our present unity with God. I gratefully acknowledge my indebtedness to our Leader for Christian Science, and the new life it has opened up to me.
