When I was sixteen years old I began to suffer from...
When I was sixteen years old I began to suffer from acute stomach trouble, and from that time until I came into Science, five years later, I never knew a well day. During the five years' time I was so sick I could only eat two meals a day and these were of the simplest foods. Even this scanty diet did not help me, and I kept going backward. Thinking that treatment in some sanitarium would benefit me, I spent five months at one, but came home no better. After consulting many physicians in Indianapolis, Cincinnati, and my home, I was at a loss to know what to do. They were all agreed that I had a bad case of stomach trouble, but how to cure it they did not know. I had what the doctors pronounced an attack of appendicitis, and they said I would have to be operated on. In my weakened condition the operating physicians decided it would be fatal to carry out the original plan, so they only relieved me by a minor operation. Just a year from this time I had another attack, and as the doctors said I was still too weak to stand much strain, the former experience was repeated. Three months after this I had another attack, and the operation was finally performed, but I was left a nervous wreck, while the original stomach trouble still continued. In this condition, after doctors and everything else had failed, I turned to Christian Science as a last resort. I had often wondered why other young people could enjoy good health, while I was always sick, with seemingly no way to be benefited. In this state of mental and physical weakness, through the help of a dear practitioner and the healing truth taught by Mrs. Eddy, I was completely healed.
I am very grateful for my healing and for the knowledge of Truth. My five years' sickness had cost my father over four thousand dollars and I had received no return. The six weeks' treatment in Christian Science cost thirty dollars and I was restored to man's rightful heritage. I am indeed grateful for Christian Science.
