For ten years I was in almost constant suffering
For ten years I was in almost constant suffering. I was very weak, and often it was only by the greatest effort that I was able to drag myself about. I was taken to many doctors, but received no permanent benefit from their various treatments. I remember that one doctor in Paris, after examining me, said with tears in his eyes, "Poor child, you will never be able to enjoy life and to what others are able to do;" and his words proved true till Christian Science came into my life and changed it all. Two other doctors, one Swedish, the other English, said something similar to my mother. It is now two and a half years ago since I commenced the daily reading of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and a fortnight later I went to a Christian Science practitioner and had five weeks of treatment, the last week being absent treatment. I began to improve at once, in fact after a few days I felt better and stronger than I had done for years, and by the end of the five weeks was in splendid health and have remained so ever since. I had also suffered with internal trouble, which used to come on with the slightest exposure to damp or cold. I have not had a single attack in these two and a half years, though I have driven and walked in all kinds of weather and twice when traveling have had to sleep in a damp bed. For two years before I came to Christian Science I had been unable to use my eyes by artificial light, and had difficulty in reading by daylight for more than fifteen minutes at a time. Since accepting Christian Science I have used them as much as I wish, by artificial light or daylight, and they have caused me no pain. My sight, which three oculists said must have been imperfect from birth and could never be better, has improved, and though not yet normal, I know that as my understanding of Christian Science grows I shall be able to realize perfect sight. Seasickness has been so overcome that I have actually seen others sick all around me without feeling the slightest sense of it, though I used to suffer so much in this way that I did not even like to go on a pier, as it reminded me of being on board ship. As I write, numbers of experiences of the healing and protecting power of Truth come to my mind, and like the psalmist I can truly say. "If I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered." Christian Science not only heals us physically, but there is no part of our daily life in which it will not bring out more harmony; it improves every condition. I have by its study been made better morally and spiritually, and so much happier—the sorrows of years have been wiped away.
The world owes endless gratitude to Mrs. Eddy, who has so clearly interpreted the Scriptures and given us such an understanding of God that we are able in this present time to avail ourselves of the Bible promises. There is no longer need to wait for the time beyond the grave wherein to experience their fulfilment, for in using this "Key to the Scriptures" the Bible becomes the most interesting book in the world, and the Christ is proven our Saviour here and now from all that is unlike God, good.
