I first heard of Christian Science about twenty years ago, while living in the West. Some dear friends who had been healed told me of it, and said I could be healed too. When I heard the words "Christian Science," I thought they were the sweetest words I had ever heard. though I did not then know all they meant. I became more interested through the healing of a friend, of serious lung trouble. This healing I saw myself, and it convinced me of the spiritual power of Christian Science. The way did not seem clear for me to take treatment until three years later, when we had been living in Pittsburg for a year. I then met the first Christian Science practitioner I had ever seen. I spent a day with her, and felt it was the first day of perfect happiness I had ever from that day Christian Science has been everything to me.

I had suffered from a serious eye trouble for eighteen years, and had worn glasses all that time. Even then I could only use my eyes for a few minutes at a time. I had been treated by the best oculists, but with no relief whatever, and no hope was given me of ever being well. I continued to grow worse, with an increasing fear of becoming blind. This condition brought on nervous trouble and all the ills that attend it, until life became a burden to me, but I still held to the thought that God would and could heal me if I could only find the right way. During my talk with this practitioner the pain left my eyes, and never returned. This was nearly seventeen years ago. I then commenced taking treatment, and in six weeks I found I did not need my glasses, so threw them away. With the first treatment the fear vanished, and I commenced using my eyes without suffering, though it was many months before I was entirely healed. My healing was very slow and I worked out of a great deal myself, but I gained so much of the truth while doing this that I have always been grateful for the slow healing. After coming to Pittsburg I had contracted a bronchial trouble which would not yield to medical treatment, but continued to grow worst until it seemed that we must leave here on account of it. This couhg was healed at once in Christian Science, and has never returned. This proved to me that God never made an unhealthful climate or one in which we cannot live.

While I am deeply grateful for the physical healing, it seems as nothing compared with the spiritual uplifting and the new understanding of God and His creation, given to us through the study of Science and Health, which answers every question, settles every doubt, and as we obey its teachings destroys every fear and error. When I caught the first glimpse of its teaching I knew it was the truth, and decided I would not give it up even if I were not healed. Words fail when I try to tell what Christian Science has done for me spiritually, and I feel that I can only express my gratitude by trying to live it and to follow more closely in the way our dear Leader has made so plain to us, and also by bringing this light, this truth, to other hungry hearts.
