Nine years ago I caught my first glimpse of the true light, when I was healed after eleven years of bondage. For five years I had been helpless from so-called incurable spinal trouble and a complication of diseases, and with prayers seemingly unanswered. When materia medica—hygiene, electricity, message, and sanitariums—had no more to offer, when I had given up all hope, then a dear friend brought me the message of Truth as found in Christian Science. She placed me under the treatment of one of Mrs. Eddy's students, who turned me to God, the Bible, and Science and Health. I wish I might express the joy and hope that our text-book brought to me. It was like giving to a starved child its first satisfying food. My healing was slow, and for this I am thankful, because it gave me ample opportunity to prove the truth. There was much to overcome of which I was unconscious until the searchlight of Truth entered my consciousness. It seemed to be a battle, but every step of the way was full of blessings unspeakable.

While the physical healing was wonderful the spiritual awakening was best of all. The Bible is a new book to me, and I now know that God's promises are sure. My heart goes out in deep gratitude to God, and to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy. I know of no better way to express my gratitude than in obedience, and in trying to give to the world through my life the same good that has come to me.
