A Loving Appeal
As a Jewess, two articles in the Christian Science Sentinel of March 17 made my heart leap with untold gladness, for they reveal to me the fact that the day of sects and creeds is indeed far spent, and that "the kingdom of God is at hand." Away with prejudice, that spectre which tries to separate God's children from each other. One of the articles to which I refer is headed. "Growth in San Francisco, Cal." (page 455). It announces the opening services of First Church of Christ, Scientist, which were held Dec. 31, and states that this building was formerly occupied by Sherith Israel congregation. This makes me think lovingly of my former co-religionists, the Hebrews, and I would say to them: We all know that God should be worshiped "in spirit and in truth," and in a temple not made with hands. It therefore follows that when the teachings of Christian Science pervade the human consciousness, that temple—that building of God—will become manifest to Jew and Gentile alike. The old structure of mortal doctrine and belief is even now passing away, and many are coming to recognize the allness of God, good, and the nothingness of superstition and dogma. We Jews should show a greater desire to know more of God, whom so many "ignorantly worship;" and I have found that this knowledge can best be gained by studying the Bible in the light of the teachings of Christian Science as found in Mrs. Eddy's book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." This book is also the key to health, happiness, holiness, heaven.
We as Jews pray for the day "when God alone will be recognized and His name alone." Because of my own experience I say. Try the healing, read the book: "Seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." My health was restored by Christian Science treatment after I had been an invalid for five years. My ailment was diagnosed as very serious, and all the doctors whom I had consulted said that even an operation would not entirely eradicate the trouble; they could promise no permanent relief or cure. They were at least honest. I was, however, healed in Christian Science in one treatment. That was two years ago. Thank God, I am perfectly well! More than this, I have come to know God,—our Father-Mother God,—who loves, protects, comforts, and sustains me and my family, and all. For this I sing a continual song of praise to God, and feel an unbounded love for and deep gratitude to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy.
The scientific understanding of the relation of God to man is the blessing of the age. On page 315 of Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy explains this very fully, and sets the mission of Jesus of Nazareth in the clearest light. Any one who is willing to read this page carefully will understand the true sonship of Christ Jesus. None need be timid about procuring this book. All are welcomed to the Christian Science Reading Rooms and churches, and a single visit to one of these places will be convincing proof of the good that Christian Science is doing. God will give all wisdom to see this light,—the Christ,—the Truth that heals the sick, reforms the sinner, binds up the broken-hearted, and uplifts the downtrodden.
