I regard it as a great privilege to be able to testify to my healing through Christian Science. A year and a half ago I did not believe in God, I did not believe in good. I could not find good in anything, I could only find bad in everything. It goes without saying that my views made me extremely unhappy. All I lived for was the thought of dying, and I was only twenty-two years of age! Over two years ago my mother became interested in Christian Science, and I took it upon myself to ridicule it without ever having opened Science and Health, but one day I went with her to the Reading Room of First Church of Christ, Scientist, New York City. There, without having any treatment, without even speaking to a practitioner, but merely by hearing the truth voiced, I was instantaneously healed,—physically, mentally, and above all, morally. Up to that day I had been smoking and drinking, but on that day I stopped both, for good and all, without any effort whatever. All desire for these things had evaporated into its native nothingness. For several years I had worn a thick woolen abdominal band. On two occasions, when I had attempted to leave it off for a single day during August, I had immediately been taken with such violent cramps and colic that I had to call in a doctor and was in bed for several days. On the day that I went to the Reading Room, though it was in the beginning of March, I took off the band and threw it away. I threw out all the material remedies on which I had been depending, tonics and indigestion tablets. I tore down certain pictures from my wall and threw out books from my bookcase. I opened the Bible for the first time in my life, and started studying "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I began attending the church, and going over the Lesson-Sermon every day. In a short time I became a member of The Mother Church.
Every day since that time I have had cause to be grateful to God for Christian Science; every day I have had cause to be grateful to Mrs. Eddy, that inspired woman who has voiced this truth to the world. My healing was surely as "miraculous" as was that of Mary Magdalene, who had been "a sinner" and out of whom Jesus cast "seven devils." After Mary Magdalene was healed, she called Jesus "Master." After I was healed, I called Mrs. Eddy Leader. To-day I call her beloved Leader, and it is my constant prayer that I may prove my love for this great Leader by being a faithful and worthy follower.
Harold Susman, New York, N. Y.
