Christian Science does heal the sick and reform the sinner. Four years ago I suddenly made up my mind to pay my mother and sisters a visit at Thanksgiving. I had never heard of Christian Science but once before, when they had written to me and told me that my sister had been healed of consumption by it. I only made light of it, and I landed home on Monday night in my usual condition—drunk. I do not believe I had dawn an absolutely sober breath for three years. My prospects in life were gone, and they had been very bright. Tuesday I went out in the little town in which my mother lived and came home that night, drunk again. The next morning as I was dressing I saw on the stand a little book which my mother had placed there. It was "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I picked up the book and began to read it, and that morning I forgot to get a drink before breakfast. I read the book all that day and was healed. Never, from that day to this, have I taken a drink of any intoxicating liquor, nor have I had a desire for it. I had made my living by gambling for some years, and was an inveterate user of tobacco. Of all these habits I was healed, and the healing is going on daily hourly in my consciousness. No words of mine can express the gratitude I feel for this truth, but I am trying to learn how to express it by daily deeds.—L. E. Hutchens, Chicago, Ill.
