If the study of Science and Health had not made me love...

If the study of Science and Health had not made me love the Bible and its teachings a great deal more, and also made me more desirous of following Christ's example, I would have had nothing to do with it, for I loved the church of which I had for eighteen years been a member. I loved its work and its people, and had not allowed myself to doubt its teachings. A grave condition had, however, existed in our family, which I had earnestly prayed over for four years, according to my highest understanding, but no answer came and the condition grew worse. Not doubting God for a moment, I knew I must be asking "amiss," for I knew that Christian Scientists had answers to their prayers, and that they must know how to pray aright. I also knew that they were all Bible students, so in full faith that I had found the Key to the Scriptures, I began to study. What the study of the Bible, and that divinely-inspired book, Science and Health, with the Quarterly, Sentinel, and Journal, have brought into my life, I have no words to express. Every discordant condition has been changed, but had there been no change except in my own consciousness I would still consider this last year worth more to me than all the other years of my life. A year ago I was filled with anxiety and worry; now I know that peace which passeth understanding, and an almost continual song has displaced the worry. The spiritual uplifting is the greatest blessing of all, and the Bible is much clearer and dearer than ever before.

That Christian Science can heal physically has been proven, too, in our home, but it has served more as a preventive of sickness than otherwise. In past years I had always been considered a delicate woman, and the previous winter I had spent considerable time in bed. This last year I have not known a moment of sickness, and our little daughter, two and a half years old, has had none of the troubles so common to most infants. A serious burn from a hot flatiron, which covered one of baby's cheeks, was healed completely in three days, with no help but that of Christian Science, and no scar whatever was left at the end of two weeks. Two deep wounds from the bites of a dog, one bite severing an artery, also responded quickly, besides many other mal-conditions.

The magnitude of the work Mrs. Eddy has done and is doing for mankind comes to me with greater force as I study on, and gratitude for it all seems a slight expression of what I feel. May my life show how truly grateful I am to God and to her.—Lura R. Curry, Chicago, Ill.
