In January, 1897, we turned from old surroundings...

In January, 1897, we turned from old surroundings where we were in bondage to mortal mind laws, bodily infirmities, and spiritual unrest, from which conditions we had failed to find relief in the promises of mental philosophy, materia medica, and orthodoxy. We entered into new surroundings, which offered new opportunities and new promises. In these new surroundings there were no old landmarks, except the Bible, which was companioning with "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker G. Eddy. With that Key to interpret the meaning of the Scriptures we soon began to see the nothingness of our mental illusions, and with increasing knowledge, our old bodily infirmities commenced to "move out." Having gained these two new conditions, we were soon given freedom to enjoy in part the promise, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." And now, after six years, we rejoice in a constantly increasing realization of the "power of Truth over error." We have been happy, healthy, and contented in our change from the old way to the new, in which promise is daily become fulfilment.

In this New Year we are continuing our search for a clearer perception of divine Love and hope to fill a niche in a new field of Christian Science endeavor, in connection with the growth of the cause in Chicago, and as members of Fifth Church of Christ, Scientist, we will help in keeping the "oil of gladness" burning in the Lamp that lighteth on the way to the "house not made with hands." We have found Christian Science a practical, satisfying, every-day support; one that heals the sick and purifies and ennobles mankind just in proportion to the honest, earnest desire of the suppliant at its gate.
