A Christian Science Victory
Press-Knickerbocker
The Christian Scientists in New Hampshire have won a notable victory. Recently, a representative of the lower branch of the legislature of New Hampshire introduced a bill which imposed a penalty upon whoever resorted to the healing of physical ailments by Christian Science.
When the members of the judiciary committee of the House found an opportunity to act, they decided by a vote of II to I, not to report the measure. This action has been generally commended by the people of New Hampshire.
Intolerance in religious belief has been in evidence since Rev. Mary Baker G. Eddy's teachings first attracted widespread attention. Human nature has changed but little in the past nineteen centuries, and as a result, narrowminded people are always ready to oppose that which does not meet their views. The fact that Christian Science has been accepted by thousands of intelligent, reputable citizens should be sufficient reason for protecting the cult from the attacks of persecutive people.
