My Brother's Demonstration

"What is that to thee? Follow thou me." was Jesus' rebuke of Peter's curiosity concerning John's demonstration; and in that sacred sermon which is the life-chart of every earnest Christian, he said, "Judge not."

In "Miscellaneous Writings," page 287, our Leader says, "Great mischief comes from attempts to steady other people's altars, venturing valor without discretion, which is virtually meddlesomeness. Even your sincere and courageous convictions regarding what is best for others may be mistaken." And all wise teachers have so advised and warned and remonstrated.

Experience has added her lesson of keen regret when we have spoken unkindly, though perhaps ignorantly, of another, for charity would have counselled silence; and yet despite counsel and experience, how easy it is to yield to the temptation to measure our brother's demonstration.
