About a year after I came into Science, I took my little son...
About a year after I came into Science, I took my little son South to meet his father, who was traveling there. We met him in St. Augustine, Florida; he told me he was obliged to go to Cuba and desired that we should go with him. I hesitated, as it was so late in the season I feared our boy would take the fever, but we finally went. Two days after our arrival I woke up early in the morning to find the child burning up with fever. Filled with fear I called my husband and told him to go out at once and cable for help He hurried out and came back excited and told me it was a Spanish feast day, the office was closed, we were shut off from the world, for the office would not be opened until six o'clock that night, and he wanted me to have a doctor; that he had been amongst yellow fever and he was afraid he had it. At that announcement I realized that God was with us, and we could not be shut out from divine Love. I said to my husband, "God is with us, and He evidently means for me to meet this case; so if you will leave us alone, I will work for him."
At various times my husband came into the room only to go out more discouraged. At three o'clock a friend traveling with us came into the room, said he was perfectly disgusted that we would not have a doctor, and told my husband he was crazy to let the child suffer. At five o'clock in the evening came the first signs of improvement. A slight perspiration broke out; by six o'clock he was covered with it and every vestige of fever was gone. At eight o'clock he asked for crackers and milk, which he ate with a relish, slept soundly all night, and the next morning he surprised our friend by coming down to breakfast as well as ever. I praised God and my heart went out in gratitude to our dear Leader for giving us the knowledge of this glorious truth. Since that time I have been called on many times to declare the truth, and it has never failed me.
