The Single Eye

In gratitude to God for the revelation of Christian Science, I desire to give, out of the abundance of evidence of the power and presence of God with us, an experience of the healing of imperfect sight.

For a number of years I had been an impatient sufferer, afflicted with a number of chronic organic diseases, which climate, travel, the best of care in hospitals, and the best medical and surgical aid possible to get, had failed either to relieve temporarily, or to hold out any hope of permanent recovery. Among these afflictions was that of astigmatism and diseased condition of the eyes, for which I wore strong glasses. It is sufficient for this time to say that I have been perfectly healed of all these infirmities of the flesh through Christian Science.

I wish to tell of the healing of the eyes. One evening after dinner, I took Science and Health as usual, and began to read. I read for some time until, lifting my eyes to the clock, I saw it was late and time to retire. Putting my hand to my face to remove my glasses, to my surprise and joy, I had been reading all the evening without them. I was overjoyed at the thought that I could thus be free from such great bondage, and retired happy. In the morning, I picked up the newspaper, and glancing at it saw in large letters, "Murdered." I started to read the article, but not one line could I see. The letters all ran together and I was distressed to find the old condition as before. With tearful eyes, and an awful sense of disappointment, I dropped my head in silent prayer for a moment, and God unfolded to me the cause of the phenomenon which had taken place.
