Among the Churches

In April, 1899, Christian Science services were held in Plainview for the first time, a visiting Scientist, at the request of one who had received great benefit from treatment, conducting the meeting. At that time there were but five persons in town who were at all interested in the subject, but during the following summer and fall, others accepted the Truth, some through healing, and some for the higher life unfolded to them. By the next April, 1900, it was decided to hold regular services, and for the past two years, we have met every Sunday at eleven o'clock at the home of the First Reader.

We have had the same difficulties to contend with that others have had. We have suffered misrepresentation and ridicule from those who do not believe as we do. A number who were with us having moved away, we are less in numbers than at the beginning.

Although few in number it was considered advisable to hold the services in a more public place, and the First Reader kindly offered the use of a hall over his store. It was gratefully accepted, neatly furnished, and on Sunday, June 8, the first service was held there. Scientists from Bloomfield and Foster were present, also a number of the townspeople.
