Christian Science not Reversible
The Bulls-Eye
Editor The Bulls-Eye.
In the March issue of your paper an article was republished from London Truth under the heading "Reversible Christian Science. Since it can cure Disease it can cause it—If Not, Why Not?" As Christian Science is not "reversible," I ask the courtesy of your columns to show "why not."
The "medical acquaintance" who argues that "if it is possible to cure disease by the 'power of mind,' a fortiori it must be possible to create disease by the same process," makes the mistake of supposing that Christian Science healing is done by the so-called power of the human mind or will; whereas Christian Science teaches distinctly and emphatically that the only real healing power is God, the infinite divine Mind. Since God is supreme Good, His power can only bless mankind, and cannot be used to induce disease, as that would be contrary to His nature. God is divine Life, Truth, and Love, as the Scriptures declare, and He sustains the real man, His spiritual image and likeness, in health and harmony. This Truth heals disease, but cannot cause it; and any opposite thought or argument that would tend to make a reality of disease is not Christian Science, but is hypnotism or malpractice.
