An Appreciation of Christian Science

The Rev. Jesse J. Kolmos, pastor of Bethel Congregational Church of Chicago, sends us the following friendly and appreciative article covering his views of Christian Science, with his kindly permission to publish the same. We gladly avail ourselves of this privilege, and assure our brother in Christ of our deep appreciation of his Christianly attitude.

Mr. Kolmos writes thus:—

In the last few years Christian Science has received much attention from some men who have "a pen of a ready writer," and no small degree of eloquence. It is also a marked fact that most of those who have written and spoken on the philosophical and practical value of Christian Science, who have not been in sympathy with it, have done so in the spirit of Pharisaism and prejudice. Denunciation and ridicule have been common enough. Why not words of approbation and appreciation too? For he who is open in mind and heart to receive the true and the beautiful and the good from whatever avenues God may see proper to send them, cannot help but observe elements in this new movement that are wholesome, inspiring, and stimulating to the spiritual life of man.
