I am happy to say that I am a Christian Scientist
I am happy to say that I am a Christian Scientist. Nine years ago I embraced this blessed truth. At that time I was a member of the Presbyterian Church, but I always felt that the church did not fulfil the Scripture; for Christ's command was to go out in the world, preach the gospel to the poor, heal the sick, cast out devils, and he promised that we should do the works that he did, and even greater. When Christian Science was explained to me I began to read and investigate it, and found that it was All-in-all. I began to study and soon began to demonstrate for myself and for my children, who have never tasted medicine in these nine years. When claims come to them and myself, my remedy is always at hand. I have had many beautiful demonstrations, with one of which I am particularly well pleased.
A friend of mine has a little girl who is now thirteen years old who had been sick from birth. She never walked until she was three years old. She has had every disease that a child could have, has had seven operations, had pieces of bone removed from her limb, and suffered untold agony. For two years she had not walked a step, had to be lifted and carried like a baby, and wheeled about in a go-cart wherever she went. Last Fourth of July she was at my house. Her mother and I talked about her condition. The child (who is unusually bright) listened very attentively to the conversation. A few days after she said, "Mamma, I believe Mrs. W. is treating me, I feel so well and have not had to take my medicine; you go over and ask her." Her mother came and said, "The child thinks you are treating her, for she feels so well." I said, "No; I have not been treating her. It is ask, and ye shall receive, and you did not ask, but good thoughts never hurt any one." Then she said, "I will ask you to treat her.
The treatment began on July 7. The next day she commenced to walk around the room, holding on to a chair. The next day, which was July 9, she came walking with her crutches over to see me, which is a block and a half away. She now walks up town, over snow and ice, without even a crutch. She is growing straight, and is happy at the thought of getting well and can run around and play with her little sister, who is six years old and about the same size. Every one who sees her walking about the streets looks at her in amazement and wonders why it is so when she tells that it is Christian Science.
