Among the Churches

Having always greatly enjoyed the reports of progress in different localities sent in by the churches, we have long felt that this church should contribute its share in return, realizing that with giving goes a double blessing, blessing both those who give and those who receive, and that our own measure of good is doubled thereby.

While our growth in numbers has not been large, we wish gratefully to acknowledge that we have much to be thankful for, that as individuals and as a church we are growing in the understanding of the ever-presence of the mind of Christ and learning to look to this as our guide and support. Christian Science was first introduced to Nebraska City about sixteen years ago, when, as the result of some good healing done by a Christian Scientist from a neighboring town, a little band of some five or six of our citizens were led to investigate this Truth and soon had class teaching. They immediately began holding meetings, and with patient courage have continued them ever since, first meeting at the homes of the different members, afterward going to a public hall.

In 1898, Christian Science was planted in a permanently organized church known as First Church of Christ, Scientist, with a charter membership of seventeen. There have since been added fifteen members. A number of these having moved away, our present membership is nineteen.
