Early in the year 1900, our fourteen-year-old son became very sick. By his own choice he took medicines from a first class doctor. (We had had previous knowledge of Christian Science healing.) Weeks went by, and he grew worse day by day until it seemed that the end was not far off, and in desperation we called a second physician, who pronounced it a serious case of diabetes, putting him on a diet that no child could endure. While he was not in bed all of any day, he became so dropsical from head to foot that he was swelled all out of shape, stammering of speech, mind perverse, sores appearing on his face and hands, and heart thumping at night so that it could be heard twelve feet away.
Mother love grew desperate, so that almost miraculously I got him off to Indianapolis where I knew there was a reading room and that I could find a healer. To her I gave his case; he was rebellious, vowing that Christian Science should not cure him, still carrying his bottle of medicine.
She soon got possession of the bottle and brought him to his right mind. One week, that very day, I took him home a well boy, sweet in disposition, all appearances of dropsy, sores, etc., gone. After returning home we continued one week of absent treatment and he has never been sick a day since. He acknowledges the healer to be his best friend and we are very grateful for God's goodness in sparing our son, who is now in an academic boarding school under military discipline, making a good record.
