Freedom

"Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."—Christian Science comes to proclaim freedom to the citizens of the world, to set the captive free, and to break the bands of slavery to the dreary thraldom of materialism. No language can express the sweet peace and joy which breaks upon our enraptured senses when we fully realize the grand verity that we are indeed and in truth free.

When Abraham Lincoln issued the emancipation proclamation, the slaves, in some instances, were apparently unable to understand the word freedom, but were seemingly dazed by the great light which had dawned upon them, and it was necessary to arouse them and repeat to them: Slavery is abolished! you are free! And so we are captives still, and know not the meaning of the words of Jesus: "Go ye into all the world." "Preach the Gospel." "Heal the sick." "Cast out devils," and "The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!" until we come into an understanding of the Truth, as taught in Christian Science. In proportion as we understand and obey the divine command, are we blest with health, happiness, and holiness.

I were ungrateful not to mention my own case of healing of a very severe case of acute indigestion and gastritis. From repeated attacks I had become very much emaciated, unable to partake of any solid food, and, to mortal sense, about to pass away, when a Christian Scientist was summoned. I immediately began to improve, and in three weeks was entirely healed; but the physical healing is not to be compared to the spiritual uplifting which is simply indescribable, and to me is a foretaste of Heaven.
