The Lord's Table

Returning thanks unto God for all His mercies, I will give unto others somewhat of the good given to me. We see the table of the Lord covered with purity, laden with divine food for each and all, with a loving invitation to go forward and partake of the food Good has provided for us. This food, which is divine and not human, must be assimilated to nourish us on our journey heavenward. First presented to us are the luscious ripened fruits of benevolence. The bread cast upon the waters returning unto us again. Then appear "apples of gold," "A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver," which means wisdom. After partaking of the fruits, then comes the meat, Obedience. Jesus said, "I have meat to eat ye know not of;" also "My meat is to do the will of him that sent me." This table is plentifully supplied with daily bread which cometh down from heaven. The staff of Life. "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." "The sincere milk of the word," to be given unto babes in understanding is there also. The water of Life flows freely at this table. "And the spirit and the bride say, come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will let him take the water of life freely." Last but not least comes the wine, "the inspiration of Love" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker G. Eddy, p. 340). This is the wine Jesus asked all his followers to drink.
