Some Reasons Why

I did not accept Christian Science primarily on account of physicial healing, but because when I read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" I found it to be the Truth; that it was what it declared itself to be, and that it furnished proofs of its statements. Two points I had not met elsewhere. It gave a new meaning to words and teachings that previously had little or no meaning, and it answered questions that I had never heard answered.

Years ago I discarded the beliefs that the mortal body contained an immortal soul, and that God sent sin and sickness on His people. Christian Science solved these problems of soul and body, sin and disease. It proved the unreality of evil by establishing the reality, the Allness, of God—Good. It explained the conflict between moral law and so-called natural law, solving the problem that confronted Paul when he wrote, "The good I would I do not: but the evil that I would not, that I do." It revealed God not as vague, theoretical, or intangible corporeality, but as the Principle of a demonstrable Truth, whose presence and power could be proven. It defined God as Love and Love as God. Love that has no respect of persons; that, like the quality of mercy, is not strained through a sense of personality; Love that fulfils and fills full the law of God.

Christian Science teaches a religion, not of the future, but of the living to-day: not of cliques or classes, but a religion that will heal and hold all humanity in one grand brotherhood, turning them towards the rising instead of the setting sun. Christian Science imparts the understanding of that Mind which was also in Christ Jesus, and shows how the possession of that Mind will enable us to do the works that were done by him whose implicit obedience to the law of God brought health, harmony, and holiness to all men and revealed the kingdom of Heaven.
