Has Wrought a Complete Change
In 1895 I was an avowed infidel, having read Paine, Huxley, Voltaire, Ingersoll, Draper's "Conflict Between Science and Religion," and literature of this class until I was in a seeming defiant and bitter opposition to the Bible and religion. It was about this time that Christian Science was first brought to my notice, and by one not a Scientist. The little information received so interested me, that I purchased literature mentioned, and commenced the study of what I supposed was Christian Science; it proved, however to be false literature.
I make mention of my experience with false literature in order that others in commencing this study may purchase only the writings of the Rev. Mary Baker Eddy, Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, and publications of the Christian Science Publishing Society, Boston, Mass. After this error was uncovered to me, I soon had "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." I continued its study for a period of eighteen months, followed by class instructions in the spring of 1897.
From the first I was deeply interested in its study, as I am to-day. It has wrought a complete change in thought, and taught me what God is, and my relation to Him. Its reasonableness and truth have healed me of infidelity, destroyed a tobacco habit of twenty-five years' indulgence after other efforts and means had proven ineffectual.
