Inerrable Word of God
Boston Transcript
In the Tremont Theatre a large audience listened to a lecture by Rev. Hiram Vrooman, pastor of the Church of the New Jerusalem, on "The Bible; Its True Nature and Divinity and Its Spiritual Inerrancy." He said in part,—
A certain scholarly examination of the Bible is now being made by leading clergymen in the various Christian denominations and by other Biblical students, the results of which are known as the "higher Biblical criticism." This higher criticism, so-called, concludes from the evidences it has examined, that the Bible is not the inerrable and veritable word of God. The change of attitude toward the Bible by the Christian ministry during recent years as the result of this higher criticism has been almost revolutionary.
Many of the exponents of the higher criticism, notwithstanding their practical repudiation of the Bible as the word of God, are deeply spiritually minded men with clear visions of spiritual truth. These men have been drinking from a crystal stream innocently denying the fountain. They have had twilight visions of a new world of righteousness, innocently denying the rising sun.
