Prayer for relief of world hunger

Tony Lobl, C.S.

In this chat, Tony Lobl talks about both compassion and individual responsibility to embrace others in our thoughts and actions. He says that Christian Science brings a spiritual dimension that shows us how we can make a difference to the world by our prayers. “As we think about people facing hunger, what we really want to do is find practical solutions, practical answers, and if we all get a better grasp of spiritual truth, we’ll be making some contribution to bringing out those practical answers.” He describes several experiences where he had no access to food, and how God provided for him.

Among the questions to which Tony replies are: How to pray about people who are begging on the street? How do we educate Western society to express moderation, to live modestly, to live in a way so that all may share and enjoy God’s abundance? How can we pray about countries whose leaders keep food aid from getting to citizens? How can one help the people who don’t work and can’t buy food? Because of the earthquake in Haiti, which took place earlier this month, Tony also responded to questions from people concerned about aspects of that situation, including the problems with looting and also with getting help to people in that nation.
