In His Love

As the kindly shepherd watchesO'er his flock with tender care,So the heavenly Father keeps usIn His love, which all may share.

Today

Today God's loving care enfolds me,Today God's precious manna feeds me,Today God's sheltering arm protects me,Today my needs are met.

My Own Song

What if my song be such a simple songThat I, forgetting 'tis my own,May tempted be to one of loftier rangeOnly to find it rings not true in tone! What if the worldling's sneer should seek to checkThe song that wells up in my heart,And those I hold most dearThink, in these testing times,It has no part!Yet will I sing the song that is my own,And as I sing, with clearer, freer tone,Perhaps the love therein expressedMay comfort bring to some sad breast; Its note of warm compassion freeOne bound by sin, satiety; The gleam of truth it longs to bringMay help some burdened heart to sing,And in its train a vision brightOf man's dominion and his true birthrightOf Life and Truth and Love divine,That ever on his pathway shine.

There Is No Death

There is no death: through the false mist I seeA vision clear of immortality;Of life bereft of sorrow, sin, and pain,Where hearts are glad and love is not in vain;Where man is seen as God made him to be—Forever ageless, joyous, pure, and free;Where each one has his place, his work, his call,For God doth reign supremely over all.

Man

Never fallen, always free,Garmented in majesty,Ray and image found in onePerfect Father's perfect son;Gentle, strong, and satisfied,Happy, active, occupied—Face to face with God's perfectionMan is wholly His reflection.

Awake with Song

Nature awakens with a song;Silence and sleep to the night belong;Melody heralds the birth of day,Carol and symphony, lilting lay,Bird oratorio, trilling clear,Summoned by call of the chanticleer;Dawn doth the curtain of night gently raise,And nature awakens to joy and praise.

From Church

The demand for church

I like to think of each church that grows up in a community as that community's answered prayer for the presence of the saving Christ—the message of God's love for humanity.

Resurrection

Perhaps in the early morning,In the glow of the rising sun;Perhaps in the tranquil twilightWhen the fight is fought and won,Like fullness of joy after sorrow,Like dew on the thirsting flower,To a heart that is gentle and lovingWill come that radiant hour—When truth on its snowy pinionsLifts thought above sense and sod,In endless adorationTo walk alone with God.

Vision

I prayed for sight; but in my thought was justThe joy of contemplating lovely thingsOf earth, and freedom, needing not to trustMaterial aids.

Freely is Good Received

Freely is good received, by none should it be takenFrom him who clasps it, having need of more;Good gifts proceed from Love, the prodigal forsakenFinds at his home what kindness kept in store.

This Be My Praise

How shal I praise Him?

Vision

God help me as a little child of ThineThy kingdom to discern—Thy plan divine!Let singleness of heart guide thought aright,Let me behold the real through truth's clear light.

An Open Door

Behold! an open door!Arise and make thy wayInto the paradise which fond and false beliefHad barred.
